I feel like Aesop's Fable The Tortoise & the Hare is something I can relate to while I'm in training for the marathon because Slow and steady seems to be my motto while training, I think. It's so true! I may not be the fastest/quickest one out there but slow and steady will get me to cross the finish line of the marathon. I have to be patient in my training and not be in a rush to get done with it. Running a marathon is hard work and takes time to get ready to do so. It will take time and effort to get me at the point where I'll be able to compete in the marathon. Not that I'm doing the marathon to win and/or place for that matter. Heck no! I'm doing the marathon for me because it is something, that's on my list of things to do in my lifetime. I'm doing it for me only and no one else. It's going to take one step at a time to be able to accomplish such a feat as finishing a Marathon. The Tortoise kept on going and never stopped; never giving up until he crossed the finish line! Slow and steady wins the race.
Enjoy the Fable!
Tortoise & the Hare
Aesop
There once was a speedy hare who bragged about how fast he could run. Tired of hearing him boast, Slow and Steady, the tortoise, challenged him to a race. All the animals in the forest gathered to watch.
Hare ran down the road for a while and then and paused to rest. He looked back at Slow and Steady and cried out, "How do you expect to win this race when you are walking along at your slow, slow pace?"
Hare stretched himself out alongside the road and fell asleep, thinking, "There is plenty of time to relax."
Slow and Steady walked and walked. He never, ever stopped until he came to the finish line.
The animals who were watching cheered so loudly for Tortoise, they woke up Hare.
Hare stretched and yawned and began to run again, but it was too late. Tortoise was over the line.
After that, Hare always reminded himself, "Don't brag about your lightning pace, for Slow and Steady won the race!"
